Storm Cloud: A dark blue that exudes elegance

Every month Sherwin-Williams unveils a color to highlight. For July 2025 Sherwin-Williams is featuring Storm Cloud, a dusky blue that gives the feeling of clouds heavy with rain that are about to drop. In this article I'm going to show you all the different ways you can use Storm Cloud SW6249 in your home.

Storm Cloud Brings Austerity to the Bedroom

Cozy bedroom with a soft gray and blue palette. Features a bed with pastel bedding, a wicker basket, and abstract wall art. Bright window light.

Whenever you use Storm Cloud in one of your living spaces it somehow brings out this depth and maturity that a plain white room could never achieve. It has much more personality to it and can make whatever space you use it in feel more serious. When paired with the off-white Greek Villa for the trim it helps Storm Cloud take command of the space while not being overcentralizing.

Storm Cloud is Ideal for the Living Room

Modern living room with beige sofas, a lit fireplace, and a TV. Blue walls, wood floor, and large window with curtains. Cozy ambiance.

Using the same color palette we used in the bedroom, we can introduce a third color in Cast Iron to provide even more depth to Storm Cloud. The two different dark shades compliment each other well while Greek Villa can serve it's role of making the trim pop.

Set Storm Cloud as your New Cabinet Color

Modern kitchen with gray cabinets, island with chairs, pendant lights, wine, and fruit bowl. Window view, bright and clean atmosphere.

If you're not set on turning your walls blue, why not try it on your cabinets instead? If the walls are already a shade of white you can help them stand out by changing the cabinets and trim to Storm Cloud. With the darker color on your furnishings the walls can stand out in a unique way that isn't just another shade of black or brown.

Storm Cloud Can Be The Accent of your Bathroom

Modern bathroom with dual sinks, marble countertop, and a tub. A doorway leads to a sunlit room with a chair and green plant.

To some painting your whole house blue is too bold, but Storm Cloud can also make for a great accent color. In the bathroom this moody blue makes a lot of sense especially when paired with Landmark, a cool brown that fits well in the palette.

Storm Cloud Could Be Your Exterior's Next Trim

Modern white house with grey trim, large windows, and a double garage. Lush green lawn, wooden fence, and trees under a clear blue sky.

Storm Cloud is a really unique shade of blue since it can function both as the primary color and a supporting one. When using Storm Cloud as your trim it provides a nice contrast with any bright color you may choose for your primary tone. But it's not so dark that it can't be paired with a darker accent such as Stony Creek for the doors.

Conclusion

Storm Cloud can do everything you want it to do. It can either be the main feature of your living space, or make your trim pop in unconventional ways. It effortlessly combines the strength of grey and blue which produces a powerful shade that is useful in multiple contexts.
